gurbani we listen to ✿
raising aru with the music i grew up on.
a small collection of the gurbani, kirtan and sakhis i play around the house — so aru hears the rhythms of my upbringing, even when we're far from a gurdwara. our starting point is bhai parminder singh's kids series on youtube. the rest grows slowly.
✿ corrections and recommendations welcome — i'm sharing what we play, not what's authoritative. if you have favourite ragis or tracks i should add, please send them my way.
bhai parminder singh (where we start)
- Bhai Parminder Singh — kids series on YouTube
the entry point for us. his kids content is gentle and singable — aru picks up melodies before words.

morning kirtan & shabads
- Mool Mantar
the foundational prayer. short, repeatable — easy for kids to pick up syllable by syllable.
- Japji Sahib
guru nanak's morning prayer. we play it in the background while getting dressed.
- Jaap Sahib

- Sukhmani Sahib — selected ashtpadis
long-form, very calming. we play sections, not the whole thing daily.
- Asa di Vaar

evening & bedtime
- Rehraas Sahib
the evening prayer. fits our sundown routine well.
- Sohila Sahib
the bedtime prayer. genuinely lulling — short, melodic, perfect for the wind-down hour.
- Soothing kirtan playlists
for the in-between hours when aru is sleepy but not asleep.
sakhis — stories of the gurus
- Animated sakhis on YouTube (for kids)
short, colourful retellings of the gurus' lives. great way for aru to learn the stories visually before he can read them.
